Barriers and Enablers of adoption of Rain Water Harvesting Technologies at County Levels: A Case of Matungulu Sub-County, Machakos County Kenya

Rainwater harvesting technology is among the oldest methods of fetching water households. The demand for use has grown globally outpacing population growth, and increasingly, many regions are currently reaching levels which services unsustainable, especially in Arid Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) regions. Inadequate domestic agricultural had negative impacts on households ASAL areas. There been however introduction rainwater technologies that seeks to solve effects scarcity these Adoption depend factors hinder/encourage adopt them. Matungulu Sub-County such area requires adoption technologies. Focus group discussions, interviews with key informants, structured questionnaires were used collect data. Descriptive inferential statistics data analysis. This involved calculation arithmetic mean, standard deviation, percentages, frequencies Analysis Variance. study identified 5 methods; Surface harvesting, Rooftop Catchments, First flush Filter. Findings indicated overall, a composite mean 4.04 deviation 0.699 respondents agreed incentives from county government significantly promoted water-harvesting was confirmed by positively strong significant correlation between integration Harvesting Technologies development agenda. Results this survey indicate mostly household heads finance County Government initiatives have not adequately felt. findings major barriers adopting costs lack expertise To ensure sustainability technologies, recommends clear monitoring systems collection County. Additionally, there need strengthen funding sensitization best enhance harvesting.
